PETER KEAYS, P. Eng.

Upon graduation in 1992, joined a telecommunications manufacturing company in a role providing Technical Support for circuit board and mechanical assembly operations.  Over the next decade, he took on diverse supporting roles specializing in small tool design, automated soldering, process planning/ improvement, and new product introduction.  He later became a Project Manager with an innovative local firm designing and manufacturing environmental remediation systems.  He has also worked with an Engineeringconsultancy servicing a multi-national consumer products industrial facility.  

As a volunteer for many years with Professional Engineers Ontario, he helped to coordinate outreach activities to promote the engineering profession in the community.

In 2011, joined DDDG Engineering Services as a Mechanical Engineer and Engineer of Record.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS:

Estimating and Administration

Contributed to the layout design, estimating, tendering and administration of a building retrofit to accommodate a municipal police station.  This was a challenging multi-year project approaching $2M constructed cost, and involving all stakeholders: owners, contractors, suppliers, regulators and inspectors.

HVAC Load Estimates

Developed in-house resources to estimate building heating, ventilation and cooling loads according to ASHRAE guidelines.

Building Condition Audits

Participated in the review of various commercial, industrial and multi-residential buildings to prioritize and estimate upgrades to architecture, and building systems (electrical, mechanical, life safety).

Commissioning Authority

Witnessed the installation and start-up of a central plant multi-boiler upgrade at a large school complex.  Implement ASHRAE commissioning process as outlined in guide 0 and guide 1.1. 

Code Compliance

Provide investigation and report for municipal and institutional clients with respect to facility equipment upgrades affected by codes and guidelines including oil and gas codes, ventilation and energy efficiency standards.

Industrial Ventilation

Helped develop ventilation designs to satisfy fire and life-safety standards for large agricultural and industrial facilities,

General Review

Provide general review services during construction and upon completion, for multiple multi-unit residential, office, commercial and industrial building construction projects to assess compliance with Ontario Building Code.
