TITLE: CAD TECHNICIAN, DRAFTER
For years, John has worked in the industrial sector designing reinforced composite equipment and pressure vessels for the pulp & paper, environmental, water treatment, chemical storage, and processing industries. John has over 30 years experience working in the engineering field and has gained experience in the construction and building materials sector most recently. John brings a vast amount of practical knowledge and experience having previously worked as a welder and pipe fitter performing industrial maintenance.
John has many years experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks CAD software and has completed formal training using SolidWorks Simulation Professional (for FEA analysis).
In March of 2021, John joined DDDG Engineering Services as a draftsperson and designer.
SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS
Commercial Space Division
When a retail space was recently converted to food service establishment, John provided the MEP plans for the franchise ensuring that corporate standards were met including mechanical, electrical and plumbing services to meet all local and regional building code requirements.
Mechanical Layouts
John has drafted the mechanical plans for multiple projects, including commercial space, individual dwelling units, as well as whole building heating, cooling and ventilation. These drawings included planning for exhaust air and fresh air requirements as well as conditioning the space, sizing ductwork, and sizing HVA/C equipment and gas lines.
Electrical Layouts
The electrical drawings John has completed include whole building and individual dwelling unit requirements as well as single line layouts and fire alarm layouts. John has completed site plans and trench details for natural gas, municipal water, electrical and sanitary sewer site services.
Lighting Design
John has created the lighting design for the interior and exterior of buildings incorporating Dark Sky friendly lighting fixtures including signage.
Code Review
John has reviewed projects to ensure they comply with the applicable code requirements. These include the Ontario Building Code, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, the Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, as well as various codes and standards provided by the NFPA and the CSA.
Plumbing Layouts
John has drafted the plumbing plans for multiple projects including supply piping, sanitary drainage, and storm sewer. John has completed the plumbing calculations based on fixture units to ensure properly sized supply and drain pipes were provided to new construction projects.
Building Condition Assessment (BCA/FCA)
John has participated in a building condition audit to inspect, identify and report on deficiencies and provide Class “D” cost estimate and maintenance schedule.
Drafting John uses his experience with AutoCAD to provide drafting services on various projects. He provided the drafting services for low-income housing project under the residential rehabilitation assistance program which included coordinating the floorplan, elevations, electrical plan, and mechanical specifications of the project as well as ensuring the project was ready for permit application.
