TITLE: ASSOCIATE MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Graduate of University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Upon graduation in 1986, joined a consulting engineering company doing mechanical electrical design with manual and computer-aided drafting. Moving up within that company and providing a full range of Mechanical and Electrical design with respect to building construction, renovation, and maintenance. As of 2023, his responsibilities included both Senior Mechanical Engineer and Junior Electrical Engineer.
Has been a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario since 1992.
Long-standing member of both ASHRAE and ASPE.
In 2023, joined DDDG Engineering Services as a Mechanical Engineer and Engineer of Record.
SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS:
Scope of Practice
Worked on system costing, design, layout, and site review for a wide variety of Commercial, Residential, and Light Industrial buildings. This would include input on the servicing of new buildings as well as upgrades to existing ones.
Residential:
Residential construction of small and large houses up to the inclusion of indoor pools.
Wide variety of multi-unit residential including community housing to high-rise condominiums with amenity spaces, commercial space on the ground floor, and underground parking. Using electric heating, gas furnaces, refrigerant cooling, heat pump systems, hydronic heating, and chilled water systems.
Commercial:
Design and layout for offices, retail spaces, and buildings. Other commercial spaces such as restaurants, bars, dance clubs, conference centers, hotels, automotive dealerships, repair garages, and storage garages.
Light Industrial:
Design and layout for new purpose-built light industrial buildings as well as fit-up of existing buildings to suit.
Load Estimates
Load calculations for heating, cooling, and ventilation in accordance with ASHRAE guidelines. Electrical load summaries for electrical services and equipment.
Building Condition Audits
Participated in the review of various commercial, industrial, and multi-residential buildings to prioritize and estimate upgrades to mechanical and electrical building systems (electrical, mechanical, and life safety). A review may also include code review and energy efficiency upgrade options.
Commissioning Authority
Witnessed the installation and start-up of a central plant multi-boiler upgrade at a large school complex. Implement ASHRAE commissioning process as outlined in guide 0 and guide 1.1.
Code Compliance
Provide investigation and report for municipal and private industry clients with respect to equipment upgrades affected by code changes for ventilation and energy efficiency standards.
General Review
Provide general review services during construction and upon completion, for all building designs such as multiple multi-unit residential, office, commercial, and industrial building construction projects to assess compliance with the Ontario Building Code.
